The thin figure leaped from tree to tree with ease. Even the squirrels envied her stamina and skill. Rue whistled to try to summon her favorite Mockingjay, Frell. She wasn't sure where she was or if Frell or any other mockingjay's came here with her. Sure enough Frell's whistle echoed back to Rue as the bird fluttered down on the branch next to Rue. "How are you Frell?" she asked looking at him with a smile. Frell repeated Rue's sound of voice in a upbeat way as if to say he was happy. She carefully lifted her hand and stroke Frell's back. He began to copy a Robin's song and she left Frell to sing his duet with the Robin. Rue looked down at the ground below it was covered in moss. Was Rue still in the arena? She didn't know. She looked around different trees to try to find something to eat. She stumbled across a bunch of nuts and she picked them up and climbed back up the tree. Carefully she took each one and smashed the shell on the tree and popped the meat of the nut in her mouth. Rue leaned against the tree intent. Those Careers couldn't get her now. She bolted to her feet when a rustling from below sounded. She quickly almost automatically grabbed her Slingshot and put one of the uncracked nuts in it ready to fire it. It probably wouldn't be the best defense but, it was something. What was that coming out of the bushes anyway? A muttation? She didn't know. She braced herself ready to flee or attack.

Maul was not one for nature. How did he get here, anyway? He could have sworn he already returned with the droids, having finished scouting the wilds of Naboo, there wasn't any reason for him to be here anymore. He pulled out his comm link from his robe pocket, holding the activation button and speaking into the microphone.
"00M-9, report. I am still in the forest. I repeat, 00M-9, report."
He awaited the familiar, robotic sound of the droid's "ROGER ROGER", but none came. Maul snarled, tossing the communications device to the ground. Useless piece of junk! The Jedi would be at Naboo at any moment, and Maul was looking forward to taking them down. They didn't seem like anything special - he had certainly dealt with worse - but he couldn't let them get away. Jedi were insignificant thorns in the side of the great Sith Empire, and they needed to be crushed. Swatted like the flies they were! And he was content to do the swatting.
But he couldn't feel their presence anymore. In fact, nothing felt out of the ordinary here to him, which is what stumped him the most. Somewhere, a bird sang - Maul already despised it. However, it was strangely peaceful, something he didn't mind, but he still needed to find out where he was. Did Sidious know? How would he return? This was proving to be a nuisance already. He moved through the underbrush, putting his hood up, allowing it to drape over the top of his head and cover most of his face.
Pushing through a patch of bushes, Maul wiped a gathering of leaves and pine needles from the cloak. He needed to find a way out of the forest...

Rue saw as he threw some sort of device to the ground. It looked like it could be from the capitol? And his face... it was so strange. Was the new trend horns? She stayed in the trees concealed by the leaves and other foliage in the tree. Frell cocked his head and examined the creature. It was so human like. Frell began to tweet rapidly before Rue shushed him. Frell was young and not too bright but, he was a sweetie. Rue sighed he'd probably already noticed someone was hiding in the trees. Still behind her foliage she called out, "Are you from the capitol or something?" A smile crept up her face. Was his face tattooed or painted. The Capitol's craziness never ended had whiskers already gone out of style? Rue chuckled lightly at the thought of a lady with oddly white skin and pink fluffy hair hot pink clothes. What was her name again? Oh Effie. Katniss's escort. Rue frowned. Katniss. Rue had been brought to this land before a boy named Marvel killed her. Was Katniss ok? Had Marvel killed her. She hoped not. Katniss had been her lifeline. She wish Katniss was here to calm her now. Rue had sweat forming at her forehead. Was this a new trick? Did the Gamemakers send him to kill her cruelly? To form a good show for the capitol to broadcast so her family could watch her die while President Snow cheered on her killer while some of her sponsors frowned. Capitol people were weird. They showed no emotion unless it was something terribly unimportant. Otherwise they were giddy rainbow dyed people.
Rue sighed. Whoever this was didn't look to happy. What would have happened if she went to met him face to face? Would he cut her head clear off? She wasn't sure. Waiting for an answer she stood in the tree slingshot ready to fire.

Maul was always on guard, always ready to fight and kill at a moment's notice. When the sound of a bird - an odd sound, unlike any bird Maul had encountered before, he was already crouching, looking around with his hand in his robe, clutching the concealed lightsaber strapped to his belt. The tweet was accompanied by a voice, which allowed Maul to pinpoint the location of the animal. ...A little girl? Out in the middle of the woods? All by herself? Now now, Rue, hasn't anyone told you not to talk to stranger? She seemed happy, giggling to herself. This brought a scowl to the Sith Assassin's face. What did she have to be so happy about? Putrid little imp. Maul would see to it that your smile would not last for much longer.
"Where I come from isn't any of your concerns, girl."
This was starting to get stranger by the second. Not only was the girl smiling less full-heartedly, but she actually aimed a slingshot at him! A child's toy! Who does she think he is? Maul sneered, drawing the reflective, polished lightsaber from his robe, which stood out like a dot of white across his black visage. It wasn't ignited though, not yet at least. He didn't need to kill the girl, but there was no promise that he would let her go scott-free, especially if she aimed to use that slingshot.
He raised a palm to her, signalling for her to stand down.
"But, I should ask you the same thing. What are you doing here, hm?"

The harshness of his tone almost made Rue laugh. "My name isn't 'girl'." Rue said narrowing her eyes slightly. She sat against the tree fiddling with her slingshot twirling it in her fingers. "I suppose that's a weapon." Rue said pointing to his hand without looking at him. "I live here." She said shrugging. She wasn't going to come down she'd made that clear by settling down comfortably in the tree. Frell chirped long repeating a single note then stopped. "Frell stop annoyign the capitol people." Frell cocked his head and hopped back onto Rue's lap. "I sure hope you're not gonna use that weapon. What does it do? Kill tributes? Harm the innocent?" Rue said still not bothering to look at him. Rue then glanced quickly at him making hard eye contact. she couldn't see him all to well. No matter. She was safe in the tree. Unti he got ticked off. Rue could escape, no doubt her body was tense ready to leap to the next tree at a second's notice. Rue was feeling strangely bold today. No hooded guy could change that really creepy weapon or not. Frell leaped off onto the branch and flew up to a higher branch. Frell might be easily intimadated but, Rue wasn't. After all Frell was a bird. Frell was braver than most though. She knew trouble would soon follow her remarks but, after the Games she wasn't much afraid of challenges. Especially after Katniss had taught her not to be afraid. That was when Katniss was there though. Rue stood her ground though. She would be like Katniss for once.

He couldn't believe it. The girl was laughing at him. Him! Going to take Maul lightly, are you? You will regret that, little girl. Maul will make sure of it. Her nonchalant attitude was really ticking Maul off, how she considered him to be some commoner, how she expected Maul to be some sort of pushover. She lives here, does she? Does she expect some sort of home-field advantage? She would be gravely mistaken. Did she think she was safe, hiding in her little tree? And who was she talking to, "Frell"? Ah, the bird. It would be a real shame if something should happen to that bird, don't you think?
"You want to know what it does? Well, why don't you come down and see for yourself?"
He sneered, parting the fingers on his extended hand and slowly closing them, as if he was holding a ball and forcing it tighter and smaller. His arm quivered as the forced kicked in, cracking and chipping the branch Rue sought safety in before he yanked his arm down, sending it crashing to the cold, hard earth. No one would underestimate his, or the Dark Side's, power as long as he had anything to say about it. She might escape, she might hop to a different branch, but it made no difference to Maul. He pressed the red button on the blade's hilt, igniting one of the red lasers with a powerful hiss, bringing it up and holding it with both hands. It splattered a red glow over Maul's robes, humming lightly.
"I will have no more of this. Tell me where I am, and how I can return to Naboo, or I will silence you, you little rat."
Maul meant business now, no little girl was going to dampen his mood today, although he was already sour to begin with.

Rue still held her smile. "I'm good. You can keep your fancy weapons to yourself." she said and listened to this next threat. "Hate to kill your good mood but, I don't know where I am or what Naboo is." Naboo. Sounded like a capitol name. Rue sighed. She flung her hand and Frell flew out of sight. Didn't need him seeing this brawl if there was going to be one. "Nice trick." She said dangling her feet from the tree. "Call me a rat all you like, that may be hurtful where you come from but, where I'm from names calling is punishable by public death." She honestly couldn't care less about his abd mood he could do it all he like through all the temper tantrums he wanted. Rue did have five younger siblings after all. All of which acted more civilzed than Mr. Hoodie over here. Frell called from a a distance away she couldn't see himt hough. She whistled back. "I can assure you if you do slience me Katniss will be here to sever your head on the ground." Rue remarked. Katniss would too. She'd be right there and drive an arrow into his skull. That was if Katniss was here. Maybe Thresh was at the very least? She knew Thresh pretty well. He helped her lift heavy thigns sometimes and sometimes even bring leftover game for her to eat after her rations had been delt to her siblings. No that would be grusome. Threash wasn't a clean killer.

Now the girl was just being enigmatic. Didn't know where she was, but she lived here? Make up your mind. As expected, she avoided the branch falling, but she just kept talking. Did she think she was in any position to taunt? Against Maul, no, no he wouldn't stand for that. Time to stop playing games, then. He wanted her head for a necklace. She went on to say how someone named 'Katniss' would save her if she was harmed. Oh, how frightening. Who would that be, her older sister? If she was anything like Rue, Maul had nothing to worry about. But it seemed apparent that as long as she was in the tree, she wouldn't be intimidated. And if destroying the tree didn't work, then the use of force would be required, pardon the pun.
Maul raised his hand again, this time going for a different tactic.
"I am not scared of a little girl who calls home to the trees. Why don't you get a taste of what being grounded feels like?"
A sudden burst of force left his palm, aimed directly as Rue. The force repel would act like a very powerful blast of wind, easily capable of knocking Rue from the tree and onto the ground, where Maul would be waiting to make her pay for her vocal misdeeds against the Sith. He was not a kind person, and there would be no mercy, especially for a small child who thought herself above him. He does not play fair, and he does not hold back. You best be ready to accept the cause of your actions. girl.

Rue sat in the tree as the wind blew her out of the tree. Her body slammed against the ground knocking the breath out of her. Agony screamed from her body as her ankle twisted oddly. She tried to stand but, got no response from her muscles. "Go ahead kill me! Then your stupid goal can be completed!" Rue screamed. Frell swooped down from the tree landing on her stomach. He flapped his wings threatningly. Calls sounded the air and birds called back as they appeared int he trees leaning in on Frell's bravery. Rue tried to lift her hand to shoo Frell away to safety but, got no response. Frell screamed loudly the birds chattering now excitedly. Rue screamed out to try to scare him off. Frell stood. Rue's ankle was throbbing now and burned like fire. Hope surged through Rue but, she still laid sprawled on the ground unable to move. Frell took flight, "Frell don't leave me now!' Rue had changed her mind. If she was going to die Frell would be near her. "You remind me of someone..." Rue muttered then it struck her. "Your exactly like Cato and Marvel." Rue announced. "Happy hunger Games." She said to herself. She closed her eyes bracing for the weapon piercing her side. A call from Frell made her open her Eyes. His wings were spread wide and her screamed and angered call. The birds chattered back to him also flapping their wings. The bird took flight plumetting down to the man. The birds were upon him. A small smile slowly formed her face. Frell landed on her stomach. "Glad you're back." Carefully her land lifted stroking Frell. She had to get up.

There we go! You may be a nuisance, little girl, but there is nothing you can do against the powers of the Dark Side of the Force! Maul's scowl became a sneer as Rue fell from her little perch, the scream signalling her twisted ankle meant she wouldn't be running away, either. What's the matter now, girl? Are you still going to talk smack, now that you don't have the protection of the trees? Maul lowered his humming lightsaber to his side and casually strolled over to where she was, noting the collection of birds singing around them. Hmph, no matter. They could sing all they liked. But Rue was beginning to peak Maul's curiosity. "Goal can be completed"? What did she mean by that? It wasn't his mission to kill her...unless she was already being hunted. He would have to stay on guard, but for now, he sensed no danger.
"Don't worry, this will be over quickly."
She fussed around with her bird for a moment, but then it flew off. He smiled as she cried out for it to return. He could feel her fear, her sadness, and her anger. Key ingredients for a Sith - but Rue lacked something else entirely - power. It was such a shame, too. She wouldn't even be a challenge for Maul, who lowered his blade above her neck, giving her shoulders a hue of red. Then, he raised it, preparing for the final blow when all of the sudden, the birds descended. Maul scowled, back-flipping. activating the second blade on his saber and creating the saber-staff, as well as allowing his hood to fall from his head. Oh well, no point in concealing himself now. This would not end well for the birds, not at all.
He twirled the blades expertly over his head, creating a helicopter-blade humming effect as the glowing red trail sentenced many of the flying creatures to their deaths, silencing songs and forcing them to the ground. The occasional bird slipped through and pecked at his robes, but rarely would it stay long enough to inflict damage. A chunk of them had been swatted away before Maul thrust an arm forward, nullifying the rest of their flight patterns and cancelling their air-time with a simple but effective use of the Force Repel.
This girl was beginning to become more trouble than she needed to be...

Rue felt the blade's warmth and he raised it. She closed her eyes again. She smiled as the birds flew down upon him. It slowly faded as the birds began to fall. She picked up a twig nearby and steadied herself on her feet. "Happy Hunger Games!" She repeated in the capitol accent and curtseyed lightly. Her ankle screamed but, Rue held it inside. No weakness would be shown. Not now. Rue quickly hobbled over to the tree. She climbed up just a bit ways out of reach. She hid behind the tree and watched on onslaught of birds. Frell was among the few that flew back. Dead birds laid scattered on the ground. She owned her life to the bird. She would have been dead. Just like she had been in the arena...Rue bit her lower lip. She would not cry. Not for Katniss, her near death, or even Thresh. She'd do this for them. Carefully she decided to go back down.
She shuffled down her foot was turned to the side. "Innocence..." she muttered. Then her eyes lit with fire. "Innocence!" She screamed. "You will pay for this." She said her eyes glazed with anger almost appearing to be teary. It seemed Rue would die here. She would not. She fists tightened. "Does harming the innocent bring a smile to your stupid face?" Sure it sounded cheesey but, Rue had made the words sting. She'd not learned her elsson nor did she want to submit. A dead bird lay near her feet and Rue kneeled and picked it up. Carefully she held it out. "Does this please you?" She said. A single tear was visible. It was not one of weakness or fear. It was one of pity. Not everyone had to be bad. What made him chose darkness? If murder pleased him what else had her done?
Rue closed her eyes letting the bird drop softly onto the ground. Her fists tightened and her eyes flashed open. "Enjoy your life I suppose..." Rue said. Not that she wanted him to be happy. What she really wanted was for Katniss to appear behind him and finish him off. She wanted to bury all these lost souls. Sing them to their immortal sleep. Why had they risked their lives for her? Why didn't they let her die? Frell had persuaded them but, why did they listen? What did he say?

The birds were a pathetic attack, at the most. Had Maul not been a Sith, they may have been able to do more to him, but barely enough to take him down. But, what if it wasn't meant to be an attack? What if Rue had something else in mind? Maul looked around, spotting Rue using a stick to help her stand. So, you wanted a diversion, did you? Clever little girl - but it wouldn't work on Maul. Did you think you could outrun him while crippled like that? What a disgrace. But, Maul wasn't looking for honor here. The Sith were not honorable people, he cared not for her innocence or his misdeeds. What, did she expect him to suddenly 'realize the error of his ways' and just turn around and leave? After all of the death he had caused in his chaotic lifetime, she wanted him to just give up?
There was not a single ounce of regret in his body, even less now that she had actually tried to escape him. And what had that caused? She forced a lot of birds to lose their lives - not that it made a difference to Maul. If he had to completely uproot the forest, he would do just that. He had these pointless words before, too. "You'll pay for this!" and yet, he still hasn't had to pay for it. Not even once. Did it feel good to know that your efforts were in vain, Rue? Because it sure made Maul feel better.
"It would please me more if you would be silent - but you may as well talk while you can. Do you truly not know where this place is? Answer me, or I will remove parts."
He gripped his glowing, double-sided lightsaber tightly in his hands. In the hands of an apprentice, or an unskilled Sith, his words would be empty. But unfortunately for Rue, he knew how to use it very well, and walked right up in front of her, putting barely half a foot between them, looming over her like a shadow in the night.

Rue sighed. He didn't give up did he? "Don't you think if I knew where I was I'd be home wiht my family?" The weapon scared her a bit but, not much capitol weapons were probably just the same. In the end almost everyone in 11 died at the hands of a fancy weapon. "You can put that down now. I'm not going to do anything funny." She took her sling shot out tossing it to the side and lifting up her hands. "Killing me would be easy but, what if I know something you don't know about this place? Hm? Then what would become of you and that fancy weapon?" It was true. Rue did know something. She sighed and relaxed her posture. He could kill her- or he could find out. He'd have to be move convincing then that. Right now all she wanted to do was to have his back up with his strange capitol look. "Look, I don't know where I am. All I know is that I settled in a tree and Frell came here too." she gestured to the tree. She cocked her head at him. "So?" she said waiting for his next come back. He wasn't like the capitol people. Definatle not as stupid as them. She'd admit that much. What else did he have to hide? He could be as cocky and rude as he wanted to be but, Rue wouldn't budge. Not even at the hands of that weapon. Gee, take a break at your anger huh?
