Rapunzel really needs her Jefferson. His personality is the same as it was in OUAT, I've just elaborated on his back story, since we still don't know much about him prior to Regina leaving him in Wonderland.
So, Jefferson was a servant in a royal household when Rapunzel arrived, claiming to be the lost princess. They fell in love but never acted on it because of their different classes. After six months, it was discovered that Rapunzel was conning the king and queen. She was locked in the highest tower and although Jefferson loved her, he couldn't help her escape. But when she finally managed to get out, he followed her. They married, stole the Hat from a wizard, traveled together, and had a daughter, Grace. When Grace was a year old, Rapunzel and Jefferson were chased by some royal guards in another world. After being separated, Rapunzel was captured and Jefferson believed her to be dead.
