GENERAL: Sherlock is tall but not terribly imposing, as he is commonly found quietly thinking. His deep voice is quite a shock to those who count him for weak, though, and his eyes are a startlingly light green. His hair is commonly unkempt, but it settles nearly the same no matter what he's been doing. His skin is fair as he rarely goes into the sun and his facial features are sharply cut, adding to his common impression of apathy and misanthropy.
ATTIRE: It would be rare to find Sherlock wearing anything other than a button-down shirt with a dark trenchcoat and scarf atop it. He often dresses nicely, very rarely making an appearance in anything that would not leave a socially acceptable impression. Not that he cares, of course. His lifestyle is as carefree as one could get.

i should not be telling you
I'M FLATTERED BY YOUR INTEREST
DISLIKES: boredom, Mycroft, Moriarty, being social, warm weather
STRENGTHS: Extremely high intelligence, deduction, solving crimes, understanding others
WEAKNESSES: anything social, so there are many.
QUIRKS/HABITS: will know more about a person in the first twenty seconds than they would like; must have quiet and few simpleminded people around him in order to think properly.
FEARS: Occasionally startled by threats from villains, but rarely actually scared. He fears mostly revealing too much of himself to others, including Watson.
GOALS: To become the world's most intelligent man, long-term. Short-term goals typically involve quickly solving a case.
PERSONALITY
Cynical Sherlock is normally very distrusting of others, and especially their opinions. He is very pessimistic because of this and his large degree of intellect allows for him to dislike others but still function well on his own. While he can read people very well, Sherlock believes (and often rightly so) that they do not like him and therefore refuses to trust any of them. Thus, he stays away from nearly everyone except Watson. He believes that his intellect positions him socially and morally above others, and that it must be quite boring in their simple minds.
Egotistical Sherlock is highly aware of his own intellect, and often uses it to belittle others. He is convinced that most people are simple, stupid, or dim, and that they usually get in his way instead of helping him--and that their talking and even thinking block his own ability to think. His personality in this aspect often sparks others' dislike of him, and thus he is also considered to be cynical.
Secretive Sherlock's high intellect and high distrust lead him to never speak personally. He lets everyone know that he could figure them out easily, but never once has another gotten to know him well. Of course, Mycroft, his brother, likely knows him the best but Sherlock will not even allow him the pleasure of knowing his thoughts. He does not care what others think, either, and it is all the better if they are not allowed to know who he really is.

HISTORY:
---Sherlock was born in London, England to an intelligent family. He had an older brother, Mycroft.
---Sherlock and his brother, Mycroft, Holmes were both gifted children who, despite their seven year age difference, were keen of eye and extremely observant. Both were well-educated, but the personality and lifestlye of each differs immensely.
---Sherlock was well versed in his schoolyears in the sciences, particularly anatomy and chemistry (and though he won't admit it, he is lacking in his political knowledge), and always had more of a drive than Mycroft when it came to mysteries and challenges. Thus he grew more intelligent while his brother began work for the government.
---He did lots of work in the labs and morgues, learning more and more. One of his favorite pasttimes was reading; many other things he considered boring.
---He eventually became a consulting detective to relieve his boredom and to find an outlet for his intellect, and began to work with the London police to help their "simple minds" solve serial murders and other crimes.
---Eventually, Sherlock needed a flatmate for his flat at 221B Baker Street, and was glad to chance meeting Doctor John Watson one morning while he was at the lab. He concluded a lot very quickly about John, who was clearly surprised.
---Sherlock and John became flatmates, John being the more reluctant of the two to agree, but they eventually grew to be friends and further, sleuthing partners. John eventually became accustomed to Sherlock's methods and quirks, and they got on well.
---Sherlock went on to work even more often with the London police on several key crimes, while retaining work on his blog, the Science of Deduction.
---He solved many cases and was well-revered in England and the UK; Sherlock and John continued to find more mysteries to solve and Sherlock never ceased to amaze those who heard his deductions.
---But something went wrong and Sherlock ended up in a time he was unfamiliar with. His deduction skills immediately landed him in the medieval times, and he began to conjure up a plan to make everything in his life as constant as possible so that he might get back to doing things that were no longer boring. At least this was a new challenge.
