Thorin is very strong and very courageous in battle, and has several scars as his momentos.
ATTIRE: Thorin commonly wears his armor, welded of strong metal, and carries on his person the Orcrist. His hood is sky blue with a silver tassel. He wears a fur-covered coat over his armor when it is cold, and around his waist sports a bejeweled belt. Additionally, Thorin sports durable boots and a variety of metal pieces on his hair, fingers, and armor. He wears his beard fairly short, but long enough to establish his station.

PERSONALITY
Haughty, stern, and officious: Thorin is strict in his leadership of the dwarves, but he is respected for it. He has probably a little too much confidence and pride, but that is what comes from being King of Durin's Folk and earning the name Oakenshield. He is direct and very forward, always honest with his kin about what he is thinking, and sometimes his words are abrasive. But Thorin is a good leader, with the skill of a king, and his manners, though harsh, are generally effective. Problematically, he has a hard time admitting to being wrong or listening to others enough.
But Thorin is also very cunning and clever. He devises good plans and generally is able to follow through. He knows when to speak up and when to remain quiet, and is not quite as boisterous as the band of dwarves that he lives with. He does enjoy a drink every now and again, and a song to quiet the night, but at all times, he is very wary of his surroundings. Thorin is particularly good at motivating his band, and inspiring confidence in them through words and actions alike.

HISTORY:
Thorin II was born in 2746 of the Third Age in Erebor, the grandson of a king. While he was adventurous in his younger years, there came a day in 2770 when Thorin's home was taken by the dragon Smaug. He and his family escaped, but ended up wandering nomadically for years, doing manual labor as a means of survival. For a time they settled in Dunland. When his grandfather Thror went to reclaim another ancient dwarf-land, he was slain by Azog, the Orc leader, thus sparking the war that earned Thorin the name Oakenshield, but killing his brother.
Thorin and his father eventually traveled to Eriador, where they settled in the Blue Mountains in 2802, but did not thrive. Thrain eventually left for want of gold, but was killed before he could get to the Lonely Mountain. Gandalf thankfully found him before he died and retrieved a key and a map for Thorin, which he delivered after Thorin assembled a band of dwarves to help him reclaim Erebor many years later.
Thorin and Gandalf devised a plan to vanquish Smaug from the Lonely Mountain, and on the wizard's advice, Thorin brought his group to a Hobbit-Hole where Bilbo Baggins was "for hire" as a burglar. But Thorin was not convinced by Bilbo. Thorin argued with Gandalf long into the night after Bilbo had gone to bed, but the Wizard was adamant, and he told Thorin that the quest would fail without Bilbo. Eventually, Bilbo joined this company, and the group set out to recapture their former home.
