The stables were mostly quiet, just a few horses stood in their stalls, and all the guards and knights were at their posts or wandering the palace grounds. After running around, and catching thieves and murderers it was nice to come to somewhere where one could just rest from her travels, and also rest her weary steed.
Being a rouge knight, gave Gretel privileges to roam the palace grounds, but not inside the castle itself unless she was invited. She rode Raven through the palace gates towards the stable yard. His coat slightly shined from sweat after working hard for Gretel several days in a row. She loosened her reins, as he went at a steady trot, and she lowered her hood off of her head to let her hair fall past her shoulder. Gretel wasn't one to really care what she looked like every day, sometimes she envied the beautiful ladies of the court, and would watch them ride by in their fancy carriages and elegant dresses. Especially Snow White, she was the most beautiful of all. She rode through the gates to the stableyard, and saw the men look at her and greet her. Gretel jumped off of Raven, taking his reins, and led him into the barn.
She had untacked him, gently taking off his bridle, and handed them to the stable boy to put away as she started to brush off his black coat. Gently she ran her hand down his neck, along his back, and circled behind him. She reached for a large body brush and gently brushed his coat. She softly sang an old lullaby that she remembered hearing when she was a baby. Raven perked his ears up, and his breathing slowed as he turned his head and looked back at her. She looked at his as she sang to him, and smiled rubbing his nose with her hand.
