Ann was lost in this big, bizarre world. Spinning on an axis with nowhere to go she watched the stars careen above her with something akin to wonder. Back on Earth, such beautiful glimpses of the night sky were rare, far and few in between back on Earth. Here there were no lights, no cars, no smog from hidden factories to cloud the brilliant sky and Ann could have starred at the stars for hours. It was beautiful here, flawless in its radiant perfection, she had only ever seen such beauty back on Skull Island, when she had been with Kong.
A smile lifted the corners of her mouth at thoughts of Kong. He had such a beautiful soul. Such a kind and loving creature. He was misunderstood, looked down upon, treating like something he most assuredly wasn't just as she had been in New York, and while this world was entirely different from the one she knew, nowhere else besides Skull Island had she ever felt such an inner peace, she may have been born in New York, but she never belonged there.
A thick wind shot through the open fields, gliding straight through the white dress she wore and chilling her to the bone. She wrapped her arms around herself, suppressing the shiver that had threatened to creep up her spine. Her short blonde hair hung in pretty curls, framing her delicate face and accentuating stormy blue eyes. She stumbled out of the fields of corn only to be greeted by a few scarce apple trees and a coral of horses. A smile lit up her face as she drew closer.
The horses watched her wearily but soon seemed to realized she posed as much of a threat as the grass beneath their hooves, a few of the bolder horses strode up along the fences, following her as she walked down the dirt pathways. She had long since forgone her heels, they were useless here. Her white dress was no longer pristine, but covered in dirt stains, and with a few rips and tears, but Ann simply couldn't bring herself to care.
She reached one of the apple trees and bit her lip extending her reach to grab one of the red apples. She pulled it from the branch with a gentle snap and twirled it in her hand. An apple, was how her initial adventure had begun. Nothing good ever lasts Mr. Dunham. That's what she had told the man, but she was beginning to doubt her own words, perhaps here in this new land, things would start to look up.
One of the horses whinnied and Ann jumped, her eyes widening at the sudden noise. It was a dappled grey stallion who tossed his head and pawed the ground. She laughed lightly at his antics before approaching the fence and reaching out to stroke his neck. He nickered softly and nudged her. She laughed loudly, nudging him back.
"Hey now! No need to shove, I can share!" She bit off a hefty piece of the apple before offering the remainder to the horse, he happily gobbled it out of her palm and swallowed it down. She laughed lightly and tugged on his ears. "Hey you greedy glutton! We were sharing!" Her voice was teasing, light hearted and she released him. The horse neighed rather loudly as though laughing with her and Ann smiled brightly. Oh yes... she loved this world so very much.

{{ How about we set a nice, calming ambience to this~?}}
John had been walking so far that his feet hurt. He could just fly, yeah, but he didn't really want to. He hadn't really seen many signs of civilization for like, a while now, but that was fine he guessed. He just arrived in this strange place, walking across the sea of green and thinking to himself. He had a lot to think about, really. He started to feel like a bit of a douche for how he acted to Jade - he didn't really want to get so mad at her. It wasn't her fault that their journey was boring as a movie without a cool protagonist, more specifically the greatest of them all, Nic Cage. And maybe Davesprite wasn't really that much of a douche either. Maybe they were all douches. Everyone's a little bit of a douche, ya know?
Jeez, there had to be a city or...or something nearby. It was already night time! He stopped walking, looking up at the stars through his squarish glasses. Wow, so pretty... He chuckled a bit. He hadn't been able to relax like this, to just sit back and watch the stars, in a very long time. He was always on the move when he was playing the game, and the two year journey through god-knows-where was just like riding in a boat through a dark tunnel. Actually that's probably exactly what it was since they did use a boat and they did sort of go through a tunnel...
He took a deep breath and continued walking, but his spirits began to lift now. He could see a structure, even in the darkness - what was it, though? It was a horse stable, but John himself would never be able to tell that. He's probably never even ridden on a horse before, really. That was sort of Rose's thing he guessed? Whatever, it was a building! He picked up the pace, the light breeze causing his extremely long hood to trail off behind him.
He stopped when he arrived at the building, walking around it to spot a woman feeding some horses. Blinking, he looked around. Was he...on a farm? How could he be on a farm, Earth was gone! Unless, now it wasn't? Okay, seriously, what the hell was happening?! Oh, did he miss something? He seemed to be doing that quite a bit lately. Maybe if people filled him in a bit more...
John walked up to Anne.
"uh...hi there miss! i was wondering if you could tell me where i am?"
Wow, smooth. Dave would have to hit him for this, he was such a dork! He glanced at the large animals beside her, blinking again. Woah...horses were larger than he thought in person.
"cool horses, haha. you know, if you like that kind of thing."

Ann stroked the horse with delicate fingers. Her gentle touched soothing the frisky beast and its ceased its restless stomping and merely breathed heavily through his nostrils. She laughed lightly resting her forehead against the horses. It nickered softly in return and Ann smiled. It wasn't everyday one saw horses in New York, even though she had only ridden a few times, it was impossible not to fall in love with such gentle giants... then again, Ann had a habbit of falling in love in gentle giants so this really shouldn't have come with such a shock. A voice behind her startled her and she turned around to see who had called out to her, perhaps the owner of the ranch?
Her stormy gaze fell on a young boy, possibly in his late teens. He was dressed in clothing that it appeared like it was from her planet but it seemed slightly different, odd. Regardless of where he had come from a wide smile pulled at the corners of her mouth and she extended a hand in greeting, ignoring the bitter chill for the time being.
"Hello! Its a pleasure to meet you! My name is Ann." She smiled brilliantly and the kindness met her eyes. "Although I am sad to say I cannot help you. I was brought here a few weeks ago, lost in the desert. I still have yet to figure out where we are and my companion does not much communicate in the way of speech." Her pretty eyes glittered with amusement as she shared her own personal joke.
"I've been looking for any kind of life, town, city... to no avail. I come from a planet called Earth, I lived in New York City, as much as I love these open country sides it gets lonely with so few people." The woman blushed prettily looking away shyly as she realized she was babbling.
"I'm sorry! I just haven't spoken with anyone in quite some time! I apologize for dragging on. Tell me a little bit about yourself." Ann worried her bottom lip between her teeth as she forced the blush to leave her cheeks. Way to go Ann first person you meet and you bore them with your life story.

John must've startled her, she probably thought she was alone. But what could she be doing alone with a bunch of large horses? Unless she was...ya know. Into that kind of stuff. Which John wasn't! But it was, er, well everyone can, uh, well...okay he wasn't really sure how to react to that so he just acted like the thought never crossed his mind. But it was there and he couldn't never unsee. 'Ann', as she introduced herself to be, seemed like a pretty nice perseon. Sweet! Nice people are the best people <-- a wonderful quote from the great William Shakespeare. John was pretty certain Shakespeare said that and there's nothing you can say to change his mind on the matter, even if that is ridiculous.
He reached out and grabbed her hand, while his wasn't exactly warm, it might help heat her palm up a bit. Heh, you know, it had been a while since John last touched someone who wasn't his sister. ...Okay wow that sounded really sketchy.
"ann huh? i'm john, nice to meet you!"
Pulling his hand back, John listened to Ann speak.
"woah, a desert? really? gosh, i'm pretty lucky then aren't i? i just got here earlier today somewhere in that direction," he pointed, "and i really don't know what the hell is going on so i guess we're both pretty confused hahaha!"
John couldn't help but grow a big, goofy smile as she explained where she came from. Earth? Really? So then, they won, or...? Maybe she was a player, too. She did seem kind a like Rose but he had seen her mom before, and Ann didn't look like her. John was happy to reply, just talking with a new human being - something he hadn't done in, what, two years? - was relieving and energizing altogether.
"new york huh? i think dave lived there but im not even sure. in fact, i can't even remember where i lived... but that's okay, my house is long gone anyway."
It was sad, sort of, and it just hit John in the gut like a rock that he wouldn't ever be able to go home again, no matter what. He always knew he wouldn't, but he never really gave it much thought...
"a little about myself? well i'm not too special to be honest, i'm not a cool kid, and i didn't really have anything going for me before the game. i'm just sort of, well, me. rose says i'm like the leader but i don't really know why. she also says that's why i'm the leader. she's pretty hard to talk to sometimes."
Oh girls, what are you gonna do?
"that reminds me, are you a player too? i'm the heir of wind, it's pretty cool i guess."

Ann had always been a gentle creature. Bewitched by the mysteries of the world, captivated by the theatre and music, she loved to laugh, she loved to make other people laugh. Whether it was with silly antics, juggling, or even a Charlie Chaplin themed routine, it was in her very blood to make the world laugh and she missed performing, terribly so. Even still, it was nice to have a bit of company no matter who or what that company was... providing he wouldn't try to eat her...like the trolls had. It would be far too soon if she never saw one of those nasty beings again.
"Tis lovely to meet someone who speaks, the pleasure is most assuredly mine John." Her voice carried her easy nature and her hints of laughter as she attempted to absorb the warmth in his palm like a sponge."And I do suppose it's better to be lost among good company than stranded by one's self no?" She laughed lightly as he pointed off in the distance gesturing to where he had come into this world from. She was surprised to hear that she was not the only one having being sucked into this planet. She had been doing nothing more than trying to sleep and forget the day and the next thing she knew... desert everywhere and anywhere she looked.
"You are lucky! My arrival was not so uneventful, within the first twenty minutes of my arrival I was caught by trolls who threatened to turn me into soup." Her face showed laughter now, but her eyes glittered with the fear she had felt when she had encountered the massive beasts, huge, outweighing her probably by a few thousand pounds she had fit comfortably in one of their hands.
His next words confused her. She frowned and her brows crinkled together as she studied him, head tilted slightly to the left as she tried to make sense of his bizarre words. She chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully coming to no sensible conclusion.
"The game? What game? What is an Heir of the Wind?" Her stormy eyes glittered with curiosity at the strange string of words. She hoped he would explain such things to her.

John found it easy to relax around Ann, although that was probably because he hadn't actually relaxed in a very long time. Or maybe he spent too much time relaxing on the ship that he actually needed to relax more and balance it out? Wait that doesn't balance out at all. Yeesh, these are some pretty bad metaphors and even worse fluffy text. There was a lot of it, really. Even this sentence is just added flare to fill some gaps!
This is getting pretty off topic now. John blinked, returning the unspoken narrator to the scene of the thread. Being in good company was certainly better than being alone, but he had been in good company for a long while. Maybe he just needed some time alone, really. He thought it would be lonely on a giant ship with only three people, but he failed to remember that all of the salamanders, crocodile-things, and whatnot would also be traveling with them. It was like a mad house! He was just happy to not deal with that for a while - but little did he know, he would be away from that for much more than just a 'little while'.
"trolls trying to turn you into soup? did they have orange horns? oh man if they did i think i know who you're talking about about!"
John was well acquainted with a few 'trolls' (or, Alternians, as they are commonly called) but never thought that Karkat or Vriska would ever try to eat someone. He really didn't know a lot about their lives but the thought of Karkat making people soup made him laugh.
"so you don't know huh? that's okay i guess, don't worry about it."
Slightly curious, that. I mean he didn't expect everyone to know about the game when the world apparently blew up but this whole scenario was curious, at the least. He glanced around again, mainly at the corns fields off to his side. They were on a farm, which meant that there must be people nearby, right?
"well if you just got here, and i just got here, then this farm doesn't belong to you does it? who's is it?"

Ann blinked, a bit bewildered by his vivid imagery. She imagined horrific monsters with protruding horns and a thousand eyes. Glittering like a thousand suns, massive as the redwoods, towering over the earth like some viral plague. Just what kind of a world did this poor boy come from? She thought New York was bad... Ann shivered, a chill that had nothing to do from the cold. She had seen far too many monsters in her lifetime, dinosaurs, bugs the size of dogs... that last one still sent a chill careening down her spine.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you but these were pale, like they had never seen the sun, which thick fat folds and boils, some oozing pus." She winced, shivering as the images returned to her. They would haunt her nightmares for the rest of her days. "I think I would have much rather dealt with the orange horned beasts. They don't seem near as... disgusting for lack of a better word."
Ann was far more acquainted with monsters than she ever cared to be... but then again, if it weren't for the monstrous beings, she never would have met Kong, and that would have been a tragedy indeed. They were kindred souls, it mattered little that he could not speak, it mattered even less that he wasn't of her same species, he adored her, kept her safe, protected, and spoke with her through his eyes. She didn't need words to know what he was saying, to know ever flicker of his golden eyes, She knew his heart. She forced herself to focus to pull away from thoughts of Kong, she doubt she would be able to explain a creature like him to someone who had never seen it with their own eyes.
"I have no idea who owns this farm. I've been searching for any signs of life... besides, ya know... the trolls ever since I got here. I've founds bogs, rotting forests, deserts, and even a few hillsides, you are the first living, breathing human I have come across... lucky you huh?" She winked at him offering him another round of her light laughter. She did not make any further comments on this so called "game" if he didn't wish to speak of it, she wouldn't force him. There was some things she preferred to stay buried in her past just as well.

John had seen his fair-share of monsters himself - there was never a dull moment in The Medium. Shale Imps, Orges, Giant Imps, Ghouls, Skeletons - you name it! He was lucky he had his hammers, or else he would have been this morning's toast! Hell, one of them managed to actually run off with one of his larger weapons. Good for nothing enemies, he hope they were happy, sitting alone on their planets. If there were even any left, that is. John was pretty sure he cleared most - if not all - of them from the session. And if he didn't, the Scratch sure did.
It seemed like Ann was having just as much luck finding other signs of life as John was, although he didn't have the, uh, opportunity to be attacked by these giant, disgusting trolls she described (although he could probably fight them off if he had to). But boy, did they sound nasty! John made a face as she brought up the point of their boils and fat folds and eeeeeeuuuuugh lets stop talking about this!
"i'm the first one you've seen so far? well i guess that does make me pretty lucky! i mean there's no reason for me to not feel lucky, you're a pretty kind lady, ann. i mean i may have seen a few people but none really come to mind right now, but that's alright i guess. i'm sort of happy that i found you, really." He really was happy, too. He could have run into some trolls, or some really unsavory people, but instead he wandered right into Ann's path. That was fine with him, honestly. Just seeing that someone else was in his predicament was comforting - and it also meant that other people were under similar circumstances. Or at least, he thinks so. For all he knows it could just be him and Ann, which still isn't so bad. It would be nice to find some kind of town or something, though. Even the salamanders had a town. But they could always start by finding out where this farm was - it had to be somewhere near a city or something right? John looked around once more, but it was really hard to see in the darkness... "is there a road here somewhere? roads are kind of important for travelling so i would assume there's one around here..."[/blockquote]

Ann's laughter was light and carefree as he spoke of her good attributes. She was glad there were still some people in the world who believed in her, thought her to be good instead of some kind of horrific demon. She merely had a knack for all things giant and what most considered monstrous, and it was always Ann's carefree response that got her in the most trouble. I see with my heart kind sir... not with my eyes. She had managed to successfully outcast herself in the dismal abyss of earth. She was hated for trying to protect a "monster." But how could he be considered the villain? They had drugged him, dragged him away from his home, had pranced him in front of an audience like a well trained circus pony and for what? Some extra money? And they had the gall to call her Kong the monster... but she was getting off topic.
"You are far too kind John!" Never the less, she pulled the sides of her dress out and curtseyed, bowing with flourish as a smile graced her face. "Technically the trolls were the first beings I came upon and I must say that you are far better company than the likes of them could ever be!" She smiled teasingly, remembering the hideous faces of those monsters... and how she longed to forget them.
"I have no idea, I came from the corn field, Lord only knows what I must smell like at this point." She crinkled her nose in disgust at her own filthy attire. "Those trolls... as filthy as they were, they mentioned eating humans. Now they weren't the most brilliant creatures I have ever come across so I would imagine they had to have encountered humans before. Which possibly means there is some sort of city? Perhaps we could look together? I will kill for a warm bath and some potato soup." She rubbed her arms together as she slowly started walking.
"So wherever you are from, what did you do? I was an actress back in New York, I played the roles of comedies, I love making people laugh." She mused with a whimsical air. If they were going to be traveling together, she figured it was best to get to know her companion.

John couldn't really relate to Ann with her love of big things. He didn't really care about the size of much of anything, really. Unless it was a measurement of time - he hated long bouts of time. They were just the worst, ya know? I mean he was patient but come on, who could be patient for like, more than a year? And you know that saying about how time flies fast? Well it's complete horse feces because time certainly doesn't move any faster than you want it to not even if you believe really hard and then your believing gland shrivels with stress and your body begins to shut down because you are losing the will to believe but you are still trying to believe your hardest. John was pretty sore about the subject.
John smiled a big-toothed grin as Ann complimented him. Aw shucks, c'mon now. He was a nice guy, he knew that, but he wasn't really that nice. Or cool. Or super smart. In fact there are a lot of things John isn't, but I don't think he'd like us to get into much detail there. So, she came from the corn, huh?
"so you're a...child of the corn?"
Not even the grasshoppers chirped.
He was curious as to how the corn would have made Ann smell bad though. It was just corn, right? Wouldn't she just smell like corn? Corn didn't smell to bad, he didn't think. Actually John doesn't remember ever smelling corn before. Does it even have a scent? He was very tempted to go sniff the corn.
"well at least there's a city out there somewhere i guess. fingers crossed!" She then questioned his history. So she was an actress, hm? Well, he could believe that, she definitely had the looks of a famous person! And she was in comedies too? Double score, right there. "that sounds pretty neat, hahaha. gonna be hard to top that, since i'm not really too special. i mean i was pretty normal until i got my copy of sburb, and then i accidentally destroyed earth and all of this other stuff happened...then i met some trolls who were really good at trolling but karkat's just himself so i find it kinda funny. then i went god tier and so did jade and i think rose and dave to??? i don't really know. oh well." He really didn't think he was very special, at all. He had to thank the game and his friends (and Nic Cage) for just about everything he had right now. Or, didn't have, because he was pretty clueless right now. "what movies were you in? i'm a pretty big movie fan. you ever seen a nic cage movie? a lot of people liked national treasure but con air is still my favorite." Such a spazz.[/blockquote]

Ann was a rather easy going woman. She had never fancied big diamond rings nor fancy dresses, she much preferred a good book, a warm play, the laughter of hundreds of people coasting across an audience as she succeeded in making them laugh. Hell, she loved to laugh, and at his words of a "child of the corn" She covered her mouth to keep her silly little giggles to a minimum. Such a cute funny thing her new friend was! Hopefully this would not be the last time they saw one another. While his personality seemed a little dorky she adored his easy charm and his attempt to make her laugh. She enjoyed people who enjoyed life itself. Despite their age difference, she could see them becoming fast friends.
"A child of the corn? You make me sound as though I am some hideous beast come to terrorize you!" Her laughter intermingled with her light and airy tones as she laughed momentarily forgetting the bitter chill of winter. "I am nothing more than a woman with a few useless talents." She winked at him as if she had just shared a great personal secret. Her easy laughter filtering through the air. She did long to find some kind of civilization, and at his easy words she smiled.
"Fingers and toes! Hopefully they are somewhat close! I've been here for roughly a month give or take and the only thing I've slept on is grass and the rivers... oh so very cold, but in a pinch they work for a bath." She shivered as if the icy waters had engulfed her. She blinked her eyes widening as he casually mentioned he destroyed Earth. Startled slightly and caught off guard she turned to face him. "You... you destroyed earth? What year? When I left Earth was perfectly intact!" He switched topics quickly asking her about her career and while she wanted to know more about the supposed destruction of earth she wished to answer his question.
"I've never heard of this.. Nic Cage... What kind of movies does he play in? I wasn't really a movie actress, well I was in one production but I don't like talking about it..." It still brought tears to her eyes to remember what they had done to Kong. "I was mainly a Broadway actress, I played humorous roles, starred in things that made people happen, skits like Charlie Chaplin used to make!" Perhaps they had come from two different worlds that simply had the same name? She had never heard of his heroes and she wondered if he would have heard of hers? Ah well, they were thrown together now, nothing else to do but get to know one another.

John was a rather easy going boy. He did not find enjoyment in reading the gothic texts of old, running multiple blogs, or advancing the field of robotic sciences. He much preferred a mediocre movie, a videogame from his personal selection of games, or a long conversation with his friends to justify the above two likes as being 'not a waste of time'. But he was pretty happy with how easily he was befriending Ann - in a strange, new world, he was certain he could use all the friends he could get. The laughing was just a nice side-effect, and it was good that someone appreciated his sense of humor. Really, he's got like, a hundred Ghost Busters jokes, just sitting in his mind for the right time. And you can bet that when the time comes, they will be used with such masterful execution you would have to wonder "Is this kid for real?" But yes, he is for real. So very, very real.
Ann went on to talk about how cold the rivers were when used as baths. Yeesh, that did sound pretty darn cold. He didn't even want to think about sleeping on the ground, he hadn't really done that before. Well he had but those times were because he was forced asleep by mystical alien powers or whatever? He wasn't entirely sure. Oh well, doesn't really matter now, does it?
"yeah destroying earth was kind of a bummer. you must've gotten out in time, we started the game in like, 2009 i think? wow it has seriously been a long time, now that i think about it, haha..."
It made him feel old and nostalgic, saying that. They really did come a long way. But wait, his mind was completely sidetracked by what she said next. Never seen a Nic Cage movie? Ho boy, she had a lot of catching up to do! He was about to flit through his wallet modus and grab his headgear - which wasn't there - but now wasn't really the time for movie watching, anyway.
"well take it from me, con air was really good. and broadway is pretty cool, too. charlie chaplin did some pretty funny stuff!"
Plays weren't really his thing but he was just rolling with it now, you know?

Ann was a fairly simple individual, she loved comedies, a good book, making friends, and flooding herself with people filled with the same gentleness and love. It was not hard to impress the blonde, nor was it hard to befriend her. She was a gentle soul with a delicate smile. As he spoke that he destroyed his world in two thousand nine... her eyes widened rather comically and her jaw dropped. It took her a moment or two to recover from the slight shock... but then again they had all been somehow transported to a new world, was it really such a stretch to suggest that it wasn't possible that they were pulled from different time periods?
"No wonder why I am a stranger to some of your words and your actors, It was 1932 when I woke up here! I would have been an old woman when you were born! If I was even still alive!" She laughed then, trying to imagine them meeting in his present day, she would have been hunched over with no teeth and surely no beauty. He probably wouldn't have even glanced twice in her direction, funny how things worked out.
Would the wonders of this bizarre place never cease? It seemed like it dragged up more impossible things in a day than she had ever encountered on Earth. Granted the one impossible place she had been too gained her the guardian of her gentle heart who, of course was anything but. She blinked suddenly, eyes widening as she thought of something terrifying and she turned her large doe-like eyes to him with hope.
"Did they discover Skull Island? If they did please tell me they did not kill off the magnificent creatures that lived there! I mean three of the T-rexes tried to eat me but I could not bear it if they brought harm to such a majestic place." Her eyes were pleading, hopeful, begging him to tell her.

John was a relatively kind boy, but making friends wasn't exactly his forte. He thinks he befriended Karkat but he's not even sure about that - the trolls are so weird - but no matter what, he always returned to the three friends who've been with him since his adventure started. He wasn't exactly a natural when it came to making new ones, at least he thought so, and the fact that he wasn't boring Ann was just a stroke of luck. No, a leap of luck. But seeing her face when he mentioned 2009, he realized he could have given her a heart-attack with his hologear, if he could find it.
But onto the next topic, how was she from 1932? John wasn't surprised at all by this, but very curious. Having a friend who time-travels tends make time-travel boring. But a world that takes people from the past as well as present, possibly even future, is definitely worth looking into. Although, he knew nothing about time. This was more a topic for Rose than for him, he knew, and he would probably have to find her in order to learn more. Wherever she was...
"1932 huh? what was it like? i heard it was pretty cool but there was some money thing going on at that time but man, the roaring twenties. the time for pinstripe tuxedos and all that jazz right? so slick!"
He was starting to ramble again, which meant it was time for him to shut up and listen. ...Skull Island? T-Rexes? This peaked his interest and his eyebrows slowly rose as she talked. Wow, uh...wow. He didn't hear about dinosaurs being discovered on any island. He was sure he would remember something like that.
"sorry but i haven't heard of it...t-rexes? really? that sounds pretty cool!"
He didn't even question whether or not she was being serious, but he didn't care. He'd seen a lot in the past two years, and islands with dinosaurs didn't seem too bad. ...Unless she was talking about Jurassic Park. That was pretty scary, he guessed, at times.

Ann, before she had tried to stop the militia from destroying her beloved Kong, had been a personality and a face that most everyone had had trouble ignoring. She was full of life and laughter and it was difficult not to want to befriend, but after she had risked everything for the gorilla, people had changed. They became hateful towards her, they stopped hiring her in Broadway productions, people on the street, would crash into her, nudge her into traffic, one of these resulted in a chipped piece of her pelvis, they broke into her apartment, a few street gangs had beaten her to a bloody mess. Monster lover, freak, and a thousand other nicknames had become her calling, even Jack had stopped talking to her after awhile. She was broken from her thoughts as he commented on the thirties and Ann had to laugh.
"Well... movies had just come into play, most of them were without sound or with just music playing in the background. Broadway and the theatre were the highlights of my era? The twenties were fun, I'm glad I don't live back west though, with Al Capone and John Dillinger running about!" She laughed lightly, wondering what else she could possibly drum up from her day and age and coming up blank. "What are movies like in your time? Are Broadway and theatre still popular or did that vanish?" She couldn't imagine a world without live action productions. They were so wonderful, so full of life and joy!
She listened intently as he spoke of no dinosaurs being discovered, nor the island and she breathed a sigh of relief. She wouldn't have minded too terribly much if they had destroyed the bugs. They were longer than a human and those feelers! She could still feel the chills cascading along her spine! But the rest of the island... it had been full of gorgeous, never-ending forests, plant life the likes of which she had never seen, dinosaurs of towering heights and of course Kong. Surely he had heard of such a discovery, the discovery of the island, its wonders and Kong had been headline news across the nation... and quite possibly the world. She had no idea what was done with his body, she didn't want to know.
"That is wonderful news, after what happened with Kong, I could only imagine what they would do to the dinosaurs. They should be left alone, allowed to roam free, remain on their island, we humans never should have interfered in the first place." Her tone had grown largely more sad. She hated what they had done, what they had used her to do, she still felt guilt about it to this day.

John wouldn't believe that Ann was so rejected back where she came from. She seemed like such a nice person, how could anyone treat her that way? Maybe they were all just idiots. John didn't really think people back then were so smart to begin with, but seriously. Humans, John has learned, can be really big douchebags at times. And not only humans, too - sometimes carapaces chessmen and grey-skinned, orange-horned aliens can be douchebags. He was pretty sure there were times when even he was a douchebag, and he certainly remembers when his friends were. Everyone had the ability to be one, but that doesn't mean everyone has to be. Some people simply don't care enough to avoid it.
But he was distracted from this thought process by Ann's question. Broadway was still pretty popular back on Earth, although he never actually saw one before. He did see cirque du soliel once with his dad though. His dad has a very peculiar thing for harlequins, which John thinks are just clowns for adults, and they ended up being banned from the show. It was so embarrassing. Silent movies, although he hasn't seen many of them, were more his thing.
"watching a movie without sound is kinda cool but also painful in a fun way? i know that sounds wrong but i guess it's pretty accurate if you know what i mean." Not many would know what he means. "a movie back where i'm from has sound and color and everything. and some pretty awesome special effects, but i'm more of a puppet and machines fan myself. plays are still pretty cool though, they've got some good ones out i guess. did you know they had a lion king play? i know you probably don't but they advertised that thing everywhere. it was pretty annoying but i guess that's okay if it was good." He didn't know if it was good or not, because he didn't see it. What he did see, though, was King Kong. And when she mentioned 'Kong', he blinked, raising his eyebrows. There was no way she could be talking about the King Kong, right? There were other Kongs, right? Like, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong...but they weren't in the 1930's. What a curious thing to say... "uh yeah their island and roaming and stuff...just where was this island?"[/blockquote]

She wondered how much the world had changed between her and John's era. Did they have hover cars? Lasers? Could they reach space? So many questions filled her head, so many impossible possibilities! But she didn't want to overload him with her crazy! She could reign in her curiosity, it was difficult for her, but she could do it. She was curious as to what kind of a person he was back on his world. Was he a leader? One of the popular kinds? One of the quiet kids? He didn't seem very shy so she highly doubted that last one, perhaps he was just as lost as she was in his world, perhaps this would be a welcome start for both of them. She smiled a bit at that thought. She had always been an optimist.
"Silent movies were incredible when they were first invented, everyone wanted to see one, be the first to witness one! It was amazing that such a small device could actually record real life... I would imagine they have gotten much more advanced though over time, it would be wonderful to view the world in your time!" Ann blushed prettily realizing she was rambling yet again. "Oh! I'm sorry for rambling! I just haven't spoken to anyone kind in such a long time, it's such a lovely change of pace for me, feel free to stop me at anytime!"
She bobbed her head along with his speech, listening intently as he spoke. She had never heard of half the things he mentioned, but she was more than happy to hear a friendly voice. He could be speaking in some foreign alien tongue and Ann would be happy. It was lovely to hear a voice not drenched in poison with wicked intent to harm her.
"Hmm... the island was off the coast of North America, about a week's journey, give or take, it was uncharted. Carl Dunham.." She spat that name out with venom. "Had this old poorly drawn map. He and our captain had set a course for the island unbeknownst to the rest of the crew and cast, myself included."

To be honest, the change between their time periods wasn't necessarily very large. True, he had the internet - oh god how he loved the internet - and they had a lot of other electronic thingamajigs, but otherwise, there wasn't too much that set them apart aside from the date. John was pretty sure New York looked the same before the game as it did during Ann's time, although he could be wrong, and he was positive Broadway and other theaters were still very popular. And on that note, John wasn't entire sure he changed very much, either. I mean, he obviously did - he was much more mature and ready for the world now then he ever was before, but he didn't feel any different. He was still John, the nerdy kid with a lot of internet friends and a dad who liked to bake. Or, well, he didn't have a dad anymore, but you get the point.
He giggled when she blushed - oh man, he was making her blush. Slow down, Egbert, there's a lot of you for just one girl.
"oh no it's fine i don't mind your rambling. i do it too! and yeah movies were pretty cool back home. there were still some things i didn't see but wanted to see, and some stuff i didn't get to see because they weren't out yet. kind of sucks, i won't get to see them ever now. oh well." He didn't even care anymore, the movies he watched on the ship were enough for him. Seriously, he was about to throw Con Air overboard, with how many times he's seen it. But, he couldn't bring himself to part with it. Besides, if he did...who would put the bunny back in the box? As she spoke again, the pieces starting falling into place in John's head. Small island...Carl Dunham...he knew this! He did! So what was it?! The set-up was kind of odd, though. Quite a few questions to be asked, quite a few answers to be given. He didn't know it yet, but it was on the tip of his tongue... "well an uncharted island is a pretty bad spot for filming a movie if you ask me. what were you doing there?"[/blockquote]

The dirt and cobblestones beneath her bare feet felt cold, it numbed her to the bones and caused goose bumps to break out along her legs as they walked trying to find some semblance of humanity or civilization. It was easy to ignore though, it had been so terribly long since she had encountered anyone even remotely kind, he was like a drink of fresh cold water in the middle of a desert and Ann found herself pleasantly distracted, by his quirky personality and easy laugh. She was glad she had chanced upon the farm, if for no other reason, than to meet him. Her souls companion may have been a gorilla that rivaled a dinosaur in size, but she found her spirit warmed by this boy from the future.
"Its good to know that I'm not the only rambler! I have a terrible tendency of boring people to death once I get going! A friend once told me that if I fueled the energy I put into straying off topic into acting, I would be unstoppable!" She laughed lightly, pushing some of her hair back from her face. She chewed her bottom lip thinking thoughtfully on his words, she could not return him to the future... but perhaps she could make him laugh. She paused mid step and bent down, gathering quite a few stones up into her hands.
"Movies? Who needs movies when you can do this!" Ann walked backwards, keeping pace with him, but tossing the stones up in the air rather quickly and catching them as they fell. Juggling she had originally done for her own enjoyment, but she had found even an act as simple as this could save one's life. She tossed one underneath her leg and kept going laughing lightly as she watched the stones with concentration.
"On the uncharted island?" She caught the stones and ceased her silly antics, the spell of silliness having passed over her. She scowled a bit darkly, thoughts of that damnable director always brought the worst out in her. "Carl Dunham, the director of the film, quite literally found me on the street, I was in the process of stealing an apple, which he paid for and then took me to dinner. His lead actress had quit on him, and he told me he was filming in the Bahamas. He told me I was the saddest girl he had ever seen and I was perfect to play the part. I didn't really want to go and against my better judgment he convinced me. I didn't find out his true intentions until we were at the island."

Aw shucks, John didn't normally make people feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He was humbled, really. Didn't know he had it in 'im! But he was a pretty easy person to talk to, assuming you were willing to listen. For a while. But it wasn't like he was an easy trigger-presser, either. He watched his words around strangers (which Ann was mutating from and into a friend), doing his best not to screw up because once you burn a bridge it takes a lot of money and time to build it back and then you have to worry about the workers and the people that use the bridge to go places and...okay, snap out of it, Egbert.
He blushed lightly when she mentioned how much of a rambler she was, too. Man...he was such a hit with the ladies. He needs to put that manliness on a leash or something, don't want too many barking up the same tree, you know? He was so cool.
"hahahahaha yeah that sounds just about right! like if you could harness the power of talking, that would be the coolest thing ever. I wonder if there would be an aspect for that. like, the knight of...voice? yeah that sounds about right. oh crap i told you i was gonna stop talking about the game didn't i? oh man i'm sorry!" Swing and a miss, man. Being a lady killer was hard sometimes! Wait was she juggling now? Oh sweet...heh heh, that was pretty cool. He cracked a smile, but not a very large one - juggling was something clowns do, and clowns are like harlequins. He would even go as far as saying that they were just clowns for adults. Creepy, messed-up adults "oh man really? that guy sounds like a real sleezeball. tricking you like that, what an ass. i hope he didn't make you do anything else, you obviously don't deserve it!" Well actually he didn't even know anything about Ann, aside from snippets of her history. She could be a serial killer! Or a serial murderer killer! ...Is that the same thing? Maybe he should just stop thinking.[/blockquote]

Ann smiled and bobbed her head along with John's excited speech. he was a rambler, like her, but she loved to listen almost as much as she loved to talk so it was a win win situation for her. John was such a sweetheart to humor her through all of her silliness and distractions! Where had someone like him been in her world? She would have killed for a friend like him, especially after Kong was killed. Sure she had had Jack for a fleeting month or two, but even he grew tired of her depression... but what had he expected? Kong had become so much more to her than anything she had ever encountered before, and he had been captured and eventually killed because of his desire to have her back... how could one not be depressed?
"Its quite alright John! Feel free to speak of whatever you desire! Just hearing a friendly voice is enough of treat for me." Ann smiled brightly, he had no idea how absolutely truthful her words were or what it meant to her to have a fastly becoming friend again. It had been so long since she had had friends, she could scarcely recall how marvelous it was to claim them once again. She did not understand much about this game, only that it was the eventual cause of the end of the world, and if she was smart (and as unlucky as she had been on Skull Island) It was probably in her best interest to stay as far away from it as she possibly good.
"Well, when we got to the island, he dragged us off the boat with no weapons and we were bombarded by natives, they killed a few of our crew, and sacrificed me by tying me to these giant wooden poles and lowering me into the forest... I suppose that's about the time the most terrifying moment of my life began. I was a sacrifice to a massive gorilla towering hundreds of feet in the air, or at least... that's what it seemed like to me. Later Carl would name him King Kong." She mused remembered that first initial meeting with humor. She had been so damn terrified, and wet, and cold, she had half wished he had killed her just so she would have to feel the frigid nights.

Believe me, John's had his fair share of silliness. His trickster's gambit has taken it's fair share of ups and downs, but he was a prankster through and through. Oh man, that one time with the Fruit Gushers in the bucket over the door? Priceless. His gambit went up quite a bit from that. John could understand why she was sad, though. He didn't exactly share her feelings for a giant ape, but it was pretty sad when his dad died. He'll avenge you, dad. He'll take Jack down if it was the last thing he did - you can bet your butt on that! He was happy with how easily Ann was befriending him. Not everyone is like that, he knew, so Ann was a rare find. No regrets here, nope!
"i don't really want to bore you though. a conversation needs two people, you know? i can do a lot of talking if you want me to. there really is a whole bunch of stuff to talk about, hahaha."
It would probably be best for John to keep the truth of SBURB away from Ann, who was largely behind his time period. It might sound silly and nonsensical and you know what? It was. But he doubted she wanted the night ruined with tails of the deceased and all of those trying times the game presented. It really was quite an experience, and one John would never forget, that was for sure.
But the game was nothing compared to the story she told. King Kong. Yup. Was she crazy? She seemed to nice to be crazy ... maybe one of those silent, screwed-up cases? Man, he just didn't know what to think. So she was that girl King Kong took up the building? Well, uh. Wow.
"...king kong huh? well, uh, i actually saw a movie like that once. about king kong...it was pretty long. like three hours or so. the graphics were cool though, he fought with some dinosaurs and stuff. i guess you've seen it too?"

Ann giggled at his words, well that certainly depended on how intriguing the story was! If one could captivate or capture the other with amazing tales of intrigue and mystery, a conversation could very well be one sided. Ann delighted herself with novels and books and almost anything else she could get her hands on, she loved a good story and she loved to tell them. Her personality was simply too excitable not too!
"A good conversation usually requires two people yes, but if you're telling a story, full of mystery and intrigue! Adventure and danger! I will tape my mouth shut if I need too!" Ann laughed, humor returning to her easily, it had been far too long since last she had made a friend, it seemed bizarre that she would find such a thing in a boy much younger than her, but who was age to decide who should be friends and who shouldn't? She had often juggled for the orphans begging for coppers back on earth... until of course even they began to flee at the sight of her. Monster lover had sounded the worst coming from them. She shook such thoughts from her psyche.
"A movie? About King Kong?" It was her turn to look bewildered. "Carl Dunham's tapes were lost, crushed on the island and the dinosaurs... the V-rexes I believe they were called... how do you know of them, he killed three to save my life... but how could you possibly know that?" Ann grew tense, worried now that he meant her or Kong harm, what if this had all been a trap? A ploy for her to reveal his location? They had sent a child because they knew of her gentle nature? What if Carl had somehow been brought here too and wanted revenge for what Ann had done?

That was true, he guessed, that a conversation had the ability to be one-sided. But that was still pretty unfair to Ann, who seemed like she had a lot to talk about herself. There was such a thing as being too polite, you know! Not that John really knew what that was, he wasn't very polite himself. Manners weren't always the first things on his mind, and he never really cared about that stuff, being around his friends most often. And ooooh boy, John was really pumped up to tell a story now, from what Ann was saying. If only he knew of any good ones ... the game wasn't exactly a good place to draw stories from, honestly. Lots of death and silliness and more death. Death death death. It's like death is having a sale, 'buy one get five hundred free'.
Although, he seemed to set her off with his comment on King Kong. Wow, she was pretty serious about this stuff. Maybe she really was crazy? That would be his luck, too. Find a really nice person, turns out to be a psychological killer or something. Not that he had anything to worry about in that department but jeez, this was just terrible. If she was joking or something, he wasn't going to put up with it any longer.
"well like i said i saw the movie? i mean it was pretty popular and stuff..."
John didn't like confrontation but seriously, this was starting to get pretty old now.
"okay are you pulling my leg here or what? i saw that movie and it was pretty cool but i don't think it's okay to trick yourself, they didn't actually happen or anything? i mean you could have been the actress in the movie and that would be really cool but still."

Ann was utterly lost. She had never acted in a movie. Not unless you counted the films whose reels had been demolished, she had never stepped foot into a recording studio, she didn't like movies, she liked live action, where things went wrong and you were forced to improvise to keep the audience entertained! She liked the difference in each performance, how if one actor or actress messed up, it became the rests responsibility to make it work! It kept her life exciting and free... so why was he accusing her of being in a movie? Why did he accuse her of lying to him? She frowned, her eyes heavily saturated with confusion, did she later in her life give in? Act in some film she wasn't privy to knowing of yet? She was so terribly confused and she stopped walking.
"John I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, it was 1932 when last I was on Earth, Pez candy had been invented four years prior, movies were just as new, I met Charlie Chaplin, I preformed comedies on a live action stage, I lived in a run down apartment in a bad part of town and I have never been in a feature production of any movie." She turned to face him, looking for any kind of cruelty in his face but she could find none and she chewed her bottom lip, an idea sparking in her brain.
"Look..." She reached into the front of her dress, and pulled out a flimsy worn identification card with her name and date typed across the front. "My name is Ann Darrow, I really am from the time period I say I am..." She chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully here, debating whether or not she should tell him the rest. "King Kong... hes not figment of some studio... hes here, just beyond those woods in fact."
